Do You Know Your Drinking Limit? New App Will Tell You When To Stop Drinking

By May 31, 2017Dining

There are smartphone apps that can help you keep track of healthy habits, like how much exercise you do and the number of steps you take in a day. But how do you keep track of those not-so-healthy habits, like how much wine you guzzle? Well, now there’s an app for that, too. A new smartphone app has been developed by Doctors in Singapore that will warn you if you go over the recommended maximum daily/weekly units of alcohol by the spy checker and this way you will be able to manage your alcohol intake.

The study conducted by BMJ explained that the alcohol tracker app has inbuilt psychological therapies that will help alcoholic app users to stay at bay from hazardous drinking habits and also that this app is based on the clinical evidence of what works best.

How this new Alcohol Track App Works?

This new alcohol track app allows you to track every beer/shot/glass of wine that you consume in a sitting and converts each drink into an alcohol “unit.” Once a user reaches the daily/weekly limits, the app will send a warning, stating that you’ve gone over the limit of what would be healthy intake.

The alcohol units are established according to the guidelines established by the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK and the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments. The NHS recommends that women have no more than two to three units of alcohol a day, which is roughly equivalent to about 6 ounces (175 milliliters) of wine a day. For men, the daily recommended maximum is three to four units, which is equivalent to less than two 12-ounce bottles.

Instead of just warning you that you’ve gone over your limit, the app will send you a validated questionnaire that will help you determine how your drinking is affecting your health. The developers also built in several tools that help users limit their intake, and have added a mobile number to an alcohol helpline if things go too far.

The Alcohol Tracker also provides links to alcohol helplines and built-in psychological therapies, such as a behavioral goals aid. A validated questionnaire enables users to find out if their drinking puts them at risk.

Apart from this, many alcohol control apps are available in the market, but they are largely for entertainment and rather curbing drinking habit they promote.
